A bill for an Act to provide for the establishment of the Nigeria Army Institute of Technology and Environmental Studies (NAITES) on Thursday passed second reading in the Senate. Leading the debate on the bill, Senator Kabir Garba Marafa said the bill will accelerate structural and academic standard of the institute.
Other Senators in their contribution supported the passing of the bill. Senator Abdul Ningi representing Bauchi Central said it was sad that an institution of this nature would exist for over 30 years without enabling law legalizing its existence. He advised the incoming Senators to ensure that all existing institutions in the country have legal law backing their existence.
Senator Aloysius Etok said the institution will enable the military produce various equipment they are needed for their operations. Senator Helen Esuene added that since the institution has been established for over 30 years without adequate legal backing, it is proper to give legal backing to the establishment of the institution.
The Senate President Senator David Mark appreciated the Senators for their support for the bill. Hence, the bill was referred to the Senate committee on Army and Defense and Judiciary
