The Ngige 2014 Campaign Organisation has expressed dismay and shock over media reports credited to the Coalition of Civil Society Organisations on Election Observation and Monitoring in Nigeria whose objectives are to create confusion, misinform the public and impugn the free, fair and transparent direct delegates primaries held by the All Peoples Congress on September 2 to elect its governorship candidate, Senator Chris Ngige.
The body’s attempt to smear the direct delegates primaries held in the 326 wards in Anambra State to elect Sen. Chris Ngige is most regrettable and condemnable, the statement said.
It is also highly hypocritical as the body failed to name its officials and present a report of its so-called ‘observation and monitoring’ of the primaries in the State’s 326 wards,it added .
“The Ngige 2014 campaign organisation queries the locus of this so called ‘observation and monitoring body’ to call for r-run of APC primary when there has been no complaint for Chief Godwin Ezeemo who had accepted the outcome of the primary, and urged his supporters to work with Ngige who polled 63255 votes to his 9554 votes
We hereby urge the Independent National Electoral commission, INEC and the security agencies to check the activities of such shadowy groups whose objectives seems to be to cause confusion and overheat the polity for ulterior and selfish motives.
‘’There are no election that do not have its lapses, but where its magnitude do not overshadow the overall result, the outcome are always accepted by the parties concerned, or the parties which do not accept such results usually petition its outcome.
‘’But in this case, Chief Ezeemo has accepted the outcome, thus what is the so-called faceless ‘Observation and Monitoring body’ interest and reasons to cast aspersion on the APC primary’ the Ngige 2014 Campaign Organnisation queried.
Tony Icheku, media aide to Ngige in the statement said, “From the report of the APC’s National monitoring committee which supervised the primary, there were incidents of violence in a ward in Awka North Local Government Area, LGA, which has 14 wards; Election was also not held in 3 wards out of the 18 wards of Orumba North LGA; There was equally no election in one ward out of the 16 wards of Ogbaru LGA’s 16 wards; Also out of Idemili 12 LGAs, the result was nullified in two wards.
The above were the only incidents of irregularities as announced by the wards returning officers. Ezeemo was present when this result was announced and he told journalists that there were acceptable to him despite the unavoidable hiccoughs.
‘’We here urge this group to cease its campaign of calumny and also urge the security agencies to be alert in its duties and checkmate all such faceless groups been used as mercenaries to cause confusion in the November 16 election.
