Again ,PHCN Workers, FG disagree over severance package

An alleged to force the workers of the Power Holding ,PHCN of Nigeria  to accept a paltry and unfair severance package has paralysed activities at the headquarters.

Workers’ union yesterday urged the staff not to go into their offices in  order to avoid being compelled to sign a purported severance letter which had loaded into the headquarters , learnt.

Workers were shocked that heavily armed Mobile policemen were drafted to the PHCN headquarters very yesterday. Each floor was said to have had equally armed Mopol at the ready for any eventuality. The armed police replaced the regular security which had in earlier. sources said the severance terms which the FG wants the workers to sign are disagreeable because  the amounts  being offered are not commensurate with the years already put in by the workers.Senior  managers  will be made to sign for  N700,000 severance  package while workers who have worked for 11 years are to get N85,000 .This is viewed as unacceptable by the union .

Meanwhile, most workers have stayed away from their offices in the headquarters today as the union and the Labour officials are said to have commenced  meetings  since  yesterday with a view to resolving the  matter.Labour is fully behind PHCN workers a source said.

The recent decision to over the transmission   to an 8 man team of Manitoba in a strange management contract  of  $23million  has heightened tension at PHCN.Despite union’s  reservations, the FG has gone ahead with the contract which workers view  as a rip off.
