The FCT Administration has procured and installed new GIS software based on World latest technology in the Abuja Geographic Information Systems (AGIS) with the aim of serving its teeming customers better and faster.
The Director of AGIS, Dr. Isa Ibrahim Jalo who made this disclosure on Friday while receiving the officials of the West African Students Union Parliament (WASUP) that paid him a visit in his office at No. 4, Peace Drive, Central Business District, Abuja, said that the upgrade was carried out by the staff of AGIS.
“Recently, we have been able to upgrade our GIS to Enterprise Class” which is an application use globally especially by advanced countries that remains the latest in the World today,” Jalo said emphasizing that all these efforts have been geared toward the realization of the “Ease of Doing Business” in the country as enshrined in the Federal Government Executive Order to that effect.
The Director stated that AGIS has been re–positioned towards making Abuja the best not only in the West African sub-region but in the entire World in consonance with the dream and vision of its founding fathers; adding that “this dream must be kept alive”.
Dr. Jalo remarked that the FCT Administration has the vision of making Abuja a smart city and that AGIS already has a road-map in achieving that; recalling that Abuja was one of the World cities that won an award for IBM smart city development lately.
According to him, “AGIS is supposed to provide infrastructure backbone in the roadmap to make Abuja a smart city before the target year of 2025 and we are already poised towards that”.
While commending the efforts of the officials that resuscitated the West African Students Union Parliament that was established in 1935 which later helped in the decolonization of the countries in the sub-region, Dr. Jalo reiterated that he is impressed by the West African students coming together despite the language barrier.
The Director however frowned at the way some campuses across the country have been turned into dens of cultism and drug addiction, and thus called on WASUP to enlighten the students on the danger, thereby helping in the eradication of such anti-social behaviors.
He also appreciated the prize of Kwame Nkrumah Exemplary Leadership Award bestowed on him; stressing that the award will spur him to greater heights in the service of humanity.
Speaking earlier, the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, Comrade Nseabasi Victor Donald, appreciated the good work AGIS is doing and that is why the Director was chosen for the Kwame Nkrumah Exemplary Leadership Award.
He enjoined the Director to help establish a foundation or scholarship fund to assist the less-privilege in his immediate community, and likewise strive to leave AGIS better than he met it.
