An Ikeja High Court on Thursday remanded Suleiman Sanni, a 33-year-old security guard, at the Kirikiri Prison in Lagos, for allegedly beating a man to death over a stolen motorcycle.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Sanni is facing one-count charge of murder which he denied.
The Lead prosecutor, Mrs C. K Tunji-Carrena, told the court that the defendant committed the offence at 2 a.m. on Oct. 8, 2015 at Otunbor St., Irawo – Owode, Ikorodu, Lagos.
“The defendant who was the security guard of the street caught the 24-year-old deceased, Moses Uche, with a motorcycle which he (Sanni) claimed was stolen.
“Sanni alongside others who are at large beat the deceased with a plank till he was unconscious.
“Uche, after he was taken to hospital for treatment, succumbed to his injuries the next day,” Tunji-Carrena said.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 221 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2011.
Justice Josephine Oyefeso adjourned the case to March 13 for trial. (NAN)
