A residential building collapsed in Nairobi’s Pipeline area on Wednesday, killing two people, while six others got injured, a local media reported.
Pius Masai, National Disaster Management Unit (NDMU) Deputy Director and Communication Officer, confirmed the death toll, saying the injured were rushed to hospital, while rescue teams went to the site to carry out searches.
Masai said “it is unfortunate that two people have been confirmed dead and six injured and among them one is critical.”
He said the one-story temporary structure collapsed when it was being demolished by persons believed to have been hired by the owner.
He added that relevant agencies were investigating the incident.
Residents in the area said the building had just one floor and had been marked for demolition.
“Police have cordoned off the area amid rescue efforts,’’ one of the residents said. (Xinhua/NAN)
