The Minister of Youth and Sports, Barrister Solomon Selcap Dalung is saddened by the recent gruesome killings in two separate attacks in the early hours of Monday in Jos North and Barkin Ladi local government councils of Plateau State.

Reacting to the barbaric attacks which left over 22 people dead and several others injured, the minister wondered why such attacks were becoming more rampant despite the presence of armed personnel including the Joint Task Force.

“It is sad that despite efforts of the Federal Government under his Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari to provide maximum security throughout the country, some blood sucking elements are busy undermining the efforts of the government through these senseless attacks.”

He commiserated with the Executive Governor of Plateau state, Simon Lalong and the families of those that were killed and injured over the unfortunate incident which has increased the level of tension in the once peaceful state in recent times.

“I wish to condole with my brother who is the Executive Government of our beloved state at this trying time and the good people of Plateau state. We need to stay united as a state and not allow these elements who are attempting to pitch  us against each other to succeed.”

Dalung challenged the men of the Nigerian Police Force and the JTF to combine all available resources and intelligence in tracking down those behind the recent dastardly act.

“The state command of the Nigerian Police must act fast in tracking down those behind these recent attacks which claimed the lives of many innocent Nigerians. The time to act by the Nigerian Police is now in other to reassure members of the public about their ability to provide security for their lives and property.

“The confidence level of Nigerians especially in Plateau state in the ability of the police to protect them is at an all-time low. We cannot afford to joke with our human resources which is the strength of Nigeria as the giant of Africa.”

Two weeks ago, Dalung visited Ancha Village of Bassa LGA where over 20 people were killed and maimed by gunmen in September. He donated relief materials to the community and called on the community leaders to eschew reprisal attacks and work together to ensure peace and harmony in the area.

Dalung prayed for the souls of the departed to find rest in the bosom of God.
