Corps De Progressive, a Non-Governmental Organisation based in Kogi State has presented forms for the Univerfied Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) to students from the Central Senatorial District of Kogi State.
At the presentation ceremony which was held at Ogaminana, head quarters of Adavi Local Government Area, 10 best students from 5 Secondary Schools in the area were selected based on their standing in the last promotion examinations as beneficiaries in what the group described as the pilot phase of the Annual Education Support Programme for indigent students from Ebira land.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, the Administrator of Adavi Local Government, Mr. Abu Ajoge commended the initiative by the Corps De Progressive as a laudable programme to support the development of education in the area. While expressing gratitude for the selection of Adavi Local Government for the start of the annual programme by the group, he said education is an important sector life that must not be left for the government alone.
The Administrator who described the Corps De Progressive as one of a few community development organisations that have stood the test of time having been founded 18 years ago, called on members to sustain their focus on youth development, stressing that “groups like this help to rekindle hope in the ability of young people to bring about positive development in any society”.
He promised that the government will support some of the students that are able to secure admission into tertiary institutions with a bursary.
Earlier in his opening remarks, the president of Corps De Progressive, Abdulmutalib Yahaya said the purchase of UTME forms for the students is the beginning of an annual education support programme that will see indigent and less privileged students receive support through tertiary education.
He noted that the presentation of the UTME forms is in line with a cardinal objective of the group to promote youth empowerment though education.
While calling on youths in the area to redirect their energy to positive things that will bring about desired change in the community, he commended the beneficiaries for distinguishing themselves in their academics and urged them to remain good ambassadors of their respective families, schools and the community.
He also commended the Administrator of Adavi Local Government Mr. Abu Ajoge for his untiring efforts in youth development through the years.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Muhammad Buhari Shehu of Government Science Secondary School Ogaminana thanked members of the Corps De Progressive for the gesture and assured that the beneficiaries will justify the confidence reposed in them by the group through the UTME forms provided as a step forward in their quest for higher education.
