President Goodluck Jonathan has announced that he will be running for the 2015 presidential election with Vice President Namadi Sambo as his running mate.He made the announcement last night during the national convention of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party ,PDP at the Eagles Square in Abuja.

Jonathan’s announcement brings to an end speculations over the fate of vice president who has faced a barrage of criticisms from those who want him out.

Arrowheads of  the campaign to oust Sambo recruited groups that persistently portrayed the incumbent as man with no political clout to help Jonathan’s reelection bid.

Similarly, pro-Sambo groups  emerged using the media to campaign for his retention ,at times threatening  to hold rallies to make a case for him.

While all these campaigns against the vice  president believed to have been masterminded by some northern governors lasted, Sambo’s aides repeatedly told Newsdiaryonline that  their boss’ position was not threatened as the President and his deputy enjoyed a  cordial working relationship.

Meanwhile, the convention was held to ratify Jonathan as Presidential candidate candidate and also ratify Alhaji Adamu Muazu as national chairman of the party.
