#TrackNigeria: Voting closed in most polling centres in Maiduguri in the governorship and State House Assembly elections at
3 p.m.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that areas where voting closed at 3 p.m. included Government House, Gwange, Bulunkutu, Gomari and
Lamisula.

A NAN correspondent who monitored the exercise at the centres reported that there was low turnout of voters in most areas in spite of
commencement of election at 8 a.m.

Voting was generally smooth and peaceful in Maiduguri metropolis, Bama, Mafa, Konduga and other parts of the state.

Meanwhile, counting of ballot papers commenced in most centres by 3.15 p.m. and was conducted by election workers in the presence of party
agents, electorate, election monitors and observers.

However, voting was ongoing in other polling units in Maiduguri and other local government areas of the state after 3 p.m.

Alhaji Muhammad Imam, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) expressed dismay over the low turnout of voters in the election.

Imam alleged that the PDP had petitioned the Independent National Electoral Commission over alleged irregularities in the election.

However, Babagana Zulum, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), commended the electorate for the high participation
in the election in Mafa.

Zulum said that the people demonstrated resilience, defied all odds and participated in the election in spite of Boko Haram insurgnets’ attack in the
community on Friday. (NAN)
