Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto state has said that the Federal government must ensure that ordered resignation and planned trial of the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen had no political undertone.
The Federal government had asked the CJN to step down to enable his trial over alleged failure of assets declaration as well as maintaining domiciliary accounts against relevant laws of the nation.
Speaking against the development during a zonal rally of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Saturday, Tambuwal further said that Buhari should allow judicial officers to perform their duties without interference.
“The purported sack and planned trial of the Chief Justice of Nigeria should not have political undertone. Because we believe that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is concerned that they are going to lose election and they feel the CJN is a stumbling block for them.
“In view of the impending loss at the 2019 general elections, Buhari should be honourable enough to vacate office,” the governor said.
He added that the judiciary, autonomous as it is, should be allowed to perform their duties without interference.
“Buhari should allow judicial officers to perform their work without let or hindrance,” Tambuwal said adding, “Victory for the PDP is sure and is a matter of time.”
He called on all supporters to embark on vigorous campaigns to ensure the awaited victory.
