2023: Imo Ex-Speaker joins Presidential Race

Ike Ibe, an ex speaker during the short lived Democratic experience under Gen. Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, IBB, has thrown his hat into the ring of presidential contest.

There have been strong calls for a Nigerian president from the south east as part of political equity ahead of 2023 general election.

The former state speaker is planning to contest under the platform of People’s Democratic Party, PDP.

Explaining the aspiration of the aspirant, Alaeto Maxwell, coordinator of the presidential campaign for the 19 northern states including the nation’s capital, Abuja, Ibe aside being a former Speaker was also a former President General, Imo Community.

Ibe, has been a lawyer for over 33 years and has worked in several areas in Nigeria and the United States.

He was one of the youngest state legislators ever elected in Nigeria in 1991 at 26 years.

While in the Assembly, he was member of committees on budget and appropriations, commerce and industries, works and housing, civil service, and chairman Information and culture committee. He became Speaker of the Imo house of Assembly briefly in 1993 at less than 28 years, before military takeover.
