100 New High Capacity Buses Procured For Abuja Next Month-Bala

Bala_MohammedThe FCT Administration has procured 100 new high capacity buses to expand the fleet of the Abuja Urban Mass Transport Company (AUMTCO) and is expected to arrive Nigeria next month.
The FCT Minister, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed CON, made this disclosure today at a meeting in his office at Area 11, Garki I District, Abuja.

The Minister revealed that these additional 100 new high capacity buses meant to expand the fleet of AUMTCO are intended to improve its capacity and service delivery in consonance with the dictates of the Transformation Agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan.

Senator Mohammed said that the FCT Administration had placed order on these vehicles from China and production is expected to be completed by March 2014.

According to him, “further to the provision of N100 Million from the FCT SURE-P Fund for the refurbishment of Mercedes Benz, Marco polo buses, AUMTCO has so far completed refurbishment of 75 out of the 91 Mercedes Benz, Marco polo buses and deployed them accordingly”.

The Minister also disclosed that AUMTCO currently deploys an average ridership of 60,000 passengers per day and 1.5 million per month at the maximum load point.

He further revealed that a cashless paper ticketing system was introduced on the 18th of January 2014 and that the public seems to have very well accepted this system, considering the level of compliance.

“It is planned to seamlessly migrate to e-ticketing in the next few months as installation of the e-ticketing equipment on the buses has already commenced,” Senator Mohammed stressed.
