Feelers
from the meeting of the Executive
Council of the Federation meeting held
in Aso Rock Nigeria's Presidential
indicate that Acting President Goodluck
Jonathan has taken full charge of
affairs. In fact, he was said to have
fired on all cylinders in manner
none of the ministers had seen before.
Insiders told
newsdiaryonline that Jonathan, whose
authority has been hitherto undermined
by the pro-YarAdua cabal, seized the
initiative by giving strong
instructions and firm orders to the
ministers today. He expects all of them
to conduct themselves appropriately or
face the consequences of their
action henceforth, Jonathan reportedly
said.
The acting president
specifically ordered all the ministers
to keep quiet and avoid making any
public comment on the state of the
nation. This may be a direct reference to
the criticism which has trailed the
comments of Professor Dora Akunyili ,the
Minister of Information who has
repeatedly told the truth by insisting
that the pro -YarAdua cabal has been
fuelling the crisis. Jonathan appears to
have taken sides with the Governors
Forum and some law makers who have been
urging Akunyili to take things easy.No
details are are available yet about
what Akunyili's defence was.
Even more,Newsdiaryonline
gathered that Jonathan was actually
not referring to Akunyili alone and that
his order to the minister to keep quiet
was meant to be obeyed by all the
ministers.The ministers at the meeting
were shocked when Jonathan according to
sources threatened to deal with everyone
by dissolving the cabinet if the they
failed to behave themselves and show
more discipline and seriousness
henceforth.
A source who spoke
with Newsdiaryonline revealed
that ''all the ministers were cowed, and
surprised by the boldness of
Jonathan''.Nonetheless, insiders
insist a major cabinet
shakeup is inevitable any time from now.
And in what
appears to be a fallout of today's hard
hitting cabinet meeting ,rumour began to
make the rounds in Abuja that Akunyili
has resigned from the cabinet. But
Newsdiaryonline gathered that the
rumour of her resignation was not
true. It was learnt this evening that
Akunyili would be proceeding on an
official assignment to the United States
of America where she will be
representing the acting president at a
conference of the United Nations. |
