ACN/CPC talks have collapsed-Source
Newsdiaryonline           Fri Jan 21,2011

The media reports about ACN/CPC signing an accord towards fielding General Muhammadu Buhari as the   joint presidential candidate are being dismissed as untrue by  Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN insiders.

One party insider told Newsdiaryonline this evening that the talks have collapsed due to the impossible conditions given by Buhari. ``I think the talks have collapsed’’, the source revealed.

It was learnt that the alliance talks collapsed as Buhari who was hoping the fly the joint ticket insisted that the ACN should be collapsed into his newly formed Congress for Progressive Change, CPC.

``He wants CAN to collapse into CPC. Buhari wants CPC to be the platform to be used for the joint ticket. But you know this is impossible. ACN has four governors. It is today the biggest opposition party, so why should ACN collapse into CPC?’’ the source asked today.

Buhari is the CPC presidential candidate. He had been discussing with AC before it transformed into ACN. Sources in AC said the chieftains of the party who had been talking with Buhari were shocked at the sudden formation of CPC.

Today, Nuhu Ribadu has emerged as the presidential candidate of the ACN. Despite Ribadu’s emergence CPC chiefs have been flying the kite that the Buhari card with ACN remains on the table. But some insiders say the hope of a joint ticket now may be misplaced.

But Ribadu actually visited Buhari at the General’s Kaduna home on Wednesday. Newsdiaryonline learnt that the visit was meant to dispel the impression that the two of them are quarrelling.
