NOW IS THE TIME TO SACK INEC CHAIRMAN

By Musa Salem    Newsdiaryonline   Monday Feb 15,2010

Dear Sir,

For deceiving the nation including the Acting President, distinguished Nigerians, corporate organizations and the international community who sent congratulatory messages to Peter Obi, the INEC Chairman should be sacked with immediate effect. We are talking about illegality and constitutionality as they concern the electoral law of Nigeria.

INEC had every opportunity to analyze properly the total votes cast for and received by each candidate in the last Anambra gubernatorial election to avoid the deceit that has now been uncovered. Even Professor Soludo who is aware that he would not benefit should there be a run-off election since it would be between the two candidates that have the highest number of votes cast, has recanted his conceding of victory which led him to congratulate Obi. He is now singing a different tune; saying that Obi did not win the election. This is to show how deceitful INEC was in the exercise.

Given that the election went concluded without much of the anticipated war situation in spite of disenfranchisement of registered voters, only 16% of them were allowed to perform one of their civic responsibilities of voting. This was caused by INEC's inefficiency. The fact that Obi did not score 25% of total number of votes cast in two-thirds of the 21 Local Government Areas as required by the electoral act renders the result inconclusive.  The law must be followed to the letter. There is no way this illegality would stand the test of time and moreover everyone that congratulated Obi did so because they depended on the declaration of the INEC. As a result of this situation which nonetheless made mockery of the result, Professor Maurice Iwu requires a sack and a run-off election conducted between Obi and Ngige.  If after that Obi wins, then well and good but the illegality committed by INEC should not be allowed otherwise it would continue in the coming elections.

OBI OWES HIS VICTORY TO INEC, PDP & ITS 'MEMBERS' BY DR SORIWEI IGONI

Sir ,

Apart from divine intervention that Anambra would not be on fire as predicted by bookmakers, it is a fact that Obi should thank spoilers, decamped PDP members, and PDP anti-party rabble-rousers. God made it in a way that voters were disenfranchised and yet the expected trouble did not take place. It should be recalled that INEC created a situation where only 16% (301,000) of the registered voters were allowed to exercise their civic responsibility even though many filed out to fulfil their obligation.

Among those that made Obi's day were spoilers like Chris Uba and his team who have expressed happiness that Soludo lost. Others are decamped PDP members that contested on other political parties platforms, namely Andy Uba (LP), Uche Ekwunife (PPA), Ukachukwu (HDP); and anti-party commentators like Governor Godswill Akpabio, Senator Annie Okonkwo, Chief Don Etiebet, etc.  All this show how weak the PDP's National Working Committee and its National Executive Council under the Chairmanship of Prince Ogbulafor are.

PDP might be heading for the rocks in the coming elections if they failed to sort out things amicably in more than the following States “ Plateau, Akwa Ibom, Oyo, Ebonyi, Edo, etc. It is not too late to have a clean slate, starting with ouster of Prince Ogbulafor. PDP lacks internal democracy and selective in treating anti-party activities of its members.
