‘I Would Have Resigned If Sheriff Had Won’ – PDP BoT Chair

Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees, Senator Walid Jibril has described the victory of the Ahmed Makarfi faction of the party at the Surpreme Court as victory for democracy in Nigeria.

The PDP BoT chair said he would have resigned and left the party had the court given judgment in favour of Senator Ali Modu Sheriff.

The Supreme Court in Abuja had on Wednesday, recognised Makarfi as the chairman of the caretaker committee of the PDP in a long legal tussle that spli the party into two factions.

Jibril who issued a terse statement on his sick bed in Kaduna where he is recuperating from an ailment said the judgment came at the right time for the PDP to put its house in order before the next round of general elections.

The BOT chair said the victory of Makarfi at the court saved the party from extinction as many would have left if the party had been handed over to Sheriff to lead.
