N2.3 BILLION CAR SCAM:  PLANS BY THE LEADERSHIP OF THE HOUSE TO RUBBISH THE E.F.C.C

Thursday Feb 12,2009

newsdiaryonline.com

It has come to my notice that the leadership of the House of Representatives has concluded plans to save its face over the on-going investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission regarding alleged fraud perpetrated in the purchase of 380 units of 407 Peugeot cars by launching a series of actions aimed at undermining the said investigation.

My information is that at a meeting held on Wednesday, the 11th day of February, 2009, in the office of a principal officer of the House, the following lines of action were decided upon:

1.      That they would launch a frontal attack on the credibility of the E.F.C.C investigation by alleging that the E.F.C.C is merely fabricating its investigation to suit some interests and satisfy certain persons.

This was decided upon after the leadership of the House, I understand, made several attempts to compromise the officials of the E.F.C.C over the on-going investigation, but were rebuffed. Even though, I do not know the stage of the investigation nor its outcome at the moment, I am confident the E.F.C.C will do a thorough job, devoid of bias, sentiment or politics, no matter whose ox is gored.

2.      That they will go ahead and consider the report of the Ethics and Privileges Committee which is nothing but a movie script written by the leadership of the House. The plan is to compromise majority of the House members to adopt the report by railroading the report through the House ahead of the conclusion of investigation by the E.F.C.C so as to water down the impact of the report.  A huge amount of money has been set aside for this purpose.

The real plan is to engage the services of many faceless groups to show solidarity with the leadership of the House so that when the matter becomes political, they have resolved that if any principal member is eventually charged to court, a majority of the members of the House will prefer to come to court to show solidarity with those charged to court rather than consider the matter objectively.

My immediate reaction is that no matter how hard they try to hide the truth, it will eventually bubble forth. I am also confident, that majority of the House members are mature enough to see through these machinations.

It is now left to them to either sully their collective image with that of some greedy few, or to insulate the matter from politics and deal with it as objectively as possible.

Finally, I urge all House members to reject any report from the Committee on Ethics and Privileges but to rather call for the independent reports of the law-enforcement agencies. That is the only way to go in this matter.

May God bless us all.
