Plateau State Government to get US support for foreign investment
The United States Government has promised to support Plateau State Government in its efforts to turn around the economic fortunes of Plateau through direct foreign investment.
According to a post by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Mark Longyen, the US Ambassador to Nigeria, Stuart Symington, stated this on Wednesday during a courtesy call on Plateau State Governor Simon Lalong in Government House, Jos.
According to Ambassador Symington, the US attaches great importance to Plateau State because of the state’s uniqueness in many ways, stressing that he already knew more about the state more than the people thought.
“Your Excellency, Plateau State means a lot to the United States, as a matter of fact, we know more about this state more than you think we know.
“We are going to give you all-round support in strategic areas of need,” he said.
The American Envoy, who was accompanied by some senior officials of the US Embassy in Nigeria, also seized the opportunity to inspect a unique specie of an indigenous plant found only in Plateau State and savored its unique beauty.
Governor Lalong, in his response, urged his guests to “sell” Plateau State’s huge and unique investment potentials to US investors back home in America to enable them to come and tap the state’s economic potentials.
“Plateau has the best investment potentials for every foreign investor looking for a safe investment haven to come and invest in the state.
“It is noteworthy that Plateau State is right now Nigeria’s most peaceful state, has a unique temperate weather and is also haven of some valuable solid minerals awaiting investors.
“Your Excellency, it behoves on you to sell Plateau State to American investors to enable them to come here and tap the great, huge and unique potentials that we have here,” Lalong said.
Governor Lalong said that his administration was committed to ensuring that the state’s economy got boosted in line with his 5-Point Policy Thrust, adding that he would welcome any kind of foreign support towards achieving that goal.
It would be recalled that Governor Lalong placed priority to bolstering Plateau State’s economy with Agriculture as its mainstay, in addition to solid minerals mining and tourism, while consolidating and sustaining the peace and security already achieved.
