Paris-London Club Refunds: Col Umar Asks Buhari To Suspend Order To CBN,Ministry
Former Governor of Kaduna State , Colonel Abubakar D. Umar (Rtd) has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to suspend his order to the Central Bank of Nigeria,CBN and the Federal Ministry of Finance to pay the second tranche of Paris Club as well as London Club refunds to states.
In a statement on Monday, Umar described as shocking, the revelations that governors contracted consultants at exorbitant fees to secure the refunds from the federal government.
Col Umar’s said in the statement, “It is now revealed that some state governors contracted consultants with fees ranging from 10 to 30 per cent to secure refund from the Federal Government of Nigeria FGN.
“With this shocking revelation, president Muhammadu Buhari should suspend his order to the the Federal Ministry Of Finance and the Central Bank Of Nigeria, CBN for the release of the second tranche of the refund.
“It is also evident now that most of the earlier released funds were deployed for other purposes than payment of salaries and pension arrears as directed by Mr President. This impunity has got to stop.”
It could be recalled that President Buhari last week ordered CBN and the Federal Ministry of Finance to ensure the payment of the second tranche of the funds to states so that they can pay arrears of salaries to workers.
