OOU GETS ACTING VICE CHANCELLOR
The Governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel,
has approved the appointment of an acting vice
chancellor for the Olabisi Onabanjo University, OOU,
following the recommendation of the University
Governing Council. The new Acting Vice Chancellor is
Professor Olusoga Sofola, who until the appointment
was a professor of physiology, College of Medicine,
University of Lagos.
The Council of the University at a meeting presided over by Otunba Alex
Onabanjo, its chairman and pro chancellor, also
recommended that the institution’s former vice
chancellor Professor Tola Osilesi, the two deputy
vice chancellors and the acting registrar should
proceed on leave immediately. The recommendation in
this regard has also been approved by the visitor to
the University.
The new acting vice chancellor brings to his
office an impressive academic credential and rich
administrative background garnered over the years in
the University system. He had served as Deputy Vice
Chancellor, Academic and Research, at the University
of Lagos between 2003 and 2007. Professor Sofola,
62, an Indigene of Remo, was at various times the
provost, College of Medicine, University of Lagos,
Chairman of Minimum Standard, basic medical
sciences, National University Commission, and a
commonwealth scholar with over 100 publications to
his name.
