Jos curfew:Soldiers Threaten Fire and Brimstone

THERE are strong indications that soldiers redeployed Friday to take charge of security situation, following the outbreak of crisis in Jos, the Plateau state capital are threatening to deal with any person, police officers inclusive police officers if they dare to come out during the dust-to-dawn curfew imposed by the state government

Our correspondent gathered that on Friday, January 22, General Sallah Miami, general officer commanding 3rd division of the Nigerian Army summoned journalists at Rukuba barracks to officially inform them that the federal government has ordered soldiers to take over the security of Jos.

The takeover order was reportedly handed down to the army top- brass by Goodluck Jonathan, the vice-president following the national embarrassment, which resulted from the rise in the number of causalities recorded since the crises broke  out Sunday last week


Based on the order, sources at the barracks disclosed that the soldiers re-deployed to the streets of Jos north local government area have been ordered to deal divisively any person found on the streets during the hours of the curfew

A soldier at the barrack disclosed that the order from the Jonathan to Miami may also have been informed by the allegations that were spreading like wildfire around Jos that some police officers detailed to nip the crises in the bud compromised, while performing their duties.


Though a number of fake soldiers and policemen were arrested while allegedly going about killing people, under the guise of trying to ferry them to the nearest police stations for safety, the presidency felt that the re-deployed soldiers could bring the crises to a halt sooner than the police
