Explosions rock Warri,Governors run for cover
Newsdiaryonline   Monday Mar 15,2010

Two bomb explosions rocked the venue of a post amnesty workshop in Warri, Delta state today. The explosions according to eye-witnesses happened close to Government House annex .

The first explosion was said to have occurred soon after the governors began to arrive. At first many thought it was a joke. But we began  to see huge balls of fire and there was stampede ,an eye witness told newsdiaryonline .``If you see the fire, you won’t believe it.apparently the bombs were planted in vehicles’’ the seemingly rattled eye witness said.

He added ``as the stampede began, we could see governors running helter-skelter.Their aides also had to scamper after their bosses and the governors’ security men shot guns into the air as they scampered off.’’

At least four governors were at the venue when the explosions occurred. They include Governors Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta state, Adams Oshiomhole of Edo state and Ikedi Ohakim of Imo State .Mr Ufot Ekaette, the Niger Delta minister was there as a representative of the Acting President Goodluck Jonathan.

It is  believed that a third bomb was in the neighbourhood. But as  those at the venue ran for cover, sources were not sure if the third bomb also exploded afterwards .Many observers wondered why the organizers went ahead  with the programme despite the bomb alert from  MEND .

``I thank God that Iam alive .’’ said an eye witnessed  after running to a safe place away from the venue of the explosions.
