Jonathan dissolves cabinet
By Danlami Nmodu     Newsdiaryonline   Wed Mar 17 ,2010

Reports from Abuja said the Acting President Goodluck Jonathan has dissolved the entire cabinet. The dissolutions came after weeks of speculation about an imminent shakeup. In fact soon after he was made acting president Newsdiaryonline reported that cabinet shakeup was imminent based on information from insiders.

Prior to today's meeting of the Executive council of the Federation, It was thought that some ministers might survive the shakeup while others might be asked to go.But the acting president apparently took the ministers by surprise as he dissolved the  cabinet after their long-drawn meeting  today where thirteen memos were discussed.

Dora Akunyili ,former information minister briefed journalists about the dissolution but she said the acting president gave no reason for the move. The ex ministers have been directed to hand over to their respective permanent secretaries.

Ima Niboro ,the acting president's spokesman said that the dissolution was part of the bid to inject fresh blood into government in the light of the critical task ahead.

Jonathan's bold move today sends encouraging signals that he is in deed in charge. Even more, it may be an indication that Jonathan is taking seriously the advice of General TY Danjuma who recently asked him to act swiftly and aggressively to move the nation forward.

The dissolution of the cabinet deals further blow to the Turai YarAdua-led cabal.Effectively Abba Sayyadi Ruma and Michael Aondoakaa are now out of government .Many observers believe Jonathan will be committing political suicide if he brings any of them back to the cabinet.Aondoakaa was actually demoted from his post as attorney general and made minister of special duties only to be finally sacked today.Reports said the Turai led cabal has been lobbying to be retained in government. But an insider said ''Jonatahn must not make that mistake if loves himself''.

President YarAdua is believed to be critically ill  despite the claims  by his loyalists to contrary.Ruma, Tanimu Yakubu, Aondoakaa,,Mohammed Tilde and President YarAdua's ADC  are the core members of the cabal who  sought to undermine the acting president in the aftermath of president YarAdua's ill health.General Sarki Mukhtar the former National security adviser who was described as the pillar of the cabal has equally been sacked earlier by Jonathan.General Aliyu Gusau is the new NSA.

The acting president promised to strengthen the anti corruption war and ensure electoral transparency;that is why many will expect him to shakeup EFCC and INEC  in line with his plan to reinvigorate the system.
