The Minister of Information and Communications, Prof. Dora Akunyili left Abuja this evening for New York as part of Nigeria's delegation to the 54th Session of the UN Special Commission on the Status of Women, popularly known as Beijing Plus 15 in progress at the UN Headquarters.

While in New York , Prof. Akunyili is expected to join other delegates from UN member countries to undertake a 15-year review of implementation of Beijing Declaration and Platform of Action on the Status of Women.

The special meeting is also a platform to compare experiences of member countries in addressing women issues, identify obstacles and challenges and evolve solutions with a view to meeting the Millennium Development Goal as it affects women.

Prof. Akunyili is expected back in the country on Tuesday next week.
